Duha: The Forenoon Prayer
Salat al-Duha is a voluntary prayer of the forenoon, offered once the sun has climbed well above the horizon. It is an easy, well-loved Sunnah — the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described a charity due upon each joint of the body every day, and said the two units of Duha suffice for it.
When it is prayed
The Duha window opens roughly 15–20 minutes after sunrise — once the sun has risen the height of a spear and the discouraged sunrise moment has passed — and closes shortly before Dhuhr, when the sun approaches its midday peak. Late morning, when the day has grown warm, is often cited as the best time.
How many units
Duha is prayed in pairs, most commonly two or four units, and up to eight or more are reported. As with all voluntary prayer, consistency matters more than quantity.
Duha and Ishraq
Some distinguish Ishraq — two units prayed right after sunrise once it is permitted — from Duha prayed later in the forenoon. Others treat them as the same prayer at different points in its window. Both views are held; the prayer is the same voluntary act either way.
